Back on Trail

Back on Trail

When I waltzed out of the woods on June 7th, I had absolutely no idea what the next month of my life would look like. Would I be offered a contract with NOLS? Would I be kayaking up on Lake Superior? Would I be guiding for a different company? A lot of my future was up in the air. At this point, I should be used to that right? Sort of.

I ended up heading back to Wisconsin to see family, do some writing, and commune with Lake Superior. Even after seeing much of the United States that lake still has a significant hold on my spirit.

Less than a month later, things seem a little less uncertain. Or maybe I have just pushed the uncertainty back by a month… On June 30th, I will be headed back into the Wind Rivers Mountains to instruct a group of 16-17 year olds on a NOLS course. Basically, my decade long dream has become a reality. It is WAY exciting.

I’ll be out of contact for almost the entire month of July, but keep an eye out for occasional posts from Chasing Cairns. Big things are coming!

Jeremy, we loved your piece in the Times, we were very inspired! Can you point us towards some resources for doing this? Especially how to outfit a vehicle like ‘Sam’ for travel? Thanks!

I am planning on putting up a more detailed exposé on my own efforts to trick out my vehicle… I’d be happy to send along more materials once I have time too!

Something so deeply satisfying about coming full circle. You are about to become ‘that guy’ for someone’s teenage son or daughter; that inspiration, that role model, that mentor. You’ve earned the gig. You’ve also had the good sense to step off the trail and develop your authentic self. That’s a lucky group of kids JBoy. Go become the guide you have long imagined!
